Dog Training Classes
Are you looking for another enjoyable way of spending time with your dog? Come and join like-minded people whilst learning how to build a life-long positive relationship between you and your dog.
- All of our courses are designed to be fun, engaging and informative.
- 4 courses available – Puppy Foundation, Level 1 Obedience (Puppies & Beginners), Level 2 Obedience (Intermediate) and Level 3 Obedience (Advanced).
- You will be assigned to a course level that matches your dog’s current training abilities.
- Dogs can progress through each of the courses to reach an advanced level of obedience at level 3.
- We focus on ensuring that dog and owner are gaining as much knowledge as possible each week in an enjoyable way.
- Classes consist of no more than six dogs.
- The low class size means that each dog can receive the attention it needs to be successful with their training.
- Free training pack of equipment worth over £20 upon enrollment on a 6 week course.
- Classes are currently held on a Saturday and Tuesday, including evenings.
- All courses are evaluated and certified following the same criteria as the Kennel Club Puppy Foundation, Bronze, Silver and Gold dog training schemes.
Puppy Foundation
The puppy foundation course is available for all puppies from 8 weeks up to the age of 6 months. It aims to provide you with an understanding of the responsibility of dog ownership, including the importance of socialisation and training. At the end of the course, your puppy will be well socialized, will respond positively to you, and will have the foundations of training, setting them off on the right track to then continue in basic obedience. The course is 4 weeks in duration, split into a 30 minute session each week.
Exercises covered include;- Responsibility and care of your puppy
- Toilet training
- Your puppies response to their name
- Play with other dogs and people
- Socialization
- Handling and grooming
- Simple meet and greet
- Puppy positions of sit, down and stand.
- Introduction of the lead
- Teaching your puppy to give up objects
Level 1 Basic Obedience for Puppies and Beginners
The level 1 course is available for puppies or adult dogs with little training. There is no age limit. It aims to provide you with the fundamental knowledge of how to understand and train your canine companion, with a view of enabling you and your dog to continue in basic obedience. At the end of the course your dog will show a greater level of obedience, with the development of a happy relationship between you and your pet. The course is 6 weeks in duration, with a one hour session each week.
Exercises covered include;
- Responsibility and care of your dog
- Basic positions
- Leave (teaching your dog to leave anything you ask them to!)
- Walking on a loose lead
- Controlled walk amongst people and dogs
- Return to handler (recall)
- Stay in one position for 30 seconds.
- Control at doorways
- Health check
Level 2 Basic Obedience
The level 2 course is available for dogs which have completed the level 1 course, or for those who already have a basic level of obedience but want to progress further. The course builds on the skills learnt in level 1 but is more advanced, to give you a greater understanding of how to train your dog and to develop a higher standard of obedience.
Emphasis is placed on heel work and general control, with the introduction of new exercises, including the road walk, and play with handler. The course is 6 weeks in duration, with a one hour session per week.
Exercises covered include;
- Stay for 1 minute in one position
- Play with handler
- Rejoin handler
- Come away from distractions (dogs or people) – advanced recall
- Road walk with advanced heelwork
- Advanced meet and greet
- Food manners
- Vehicle Control
- Health Check and Examination
Level 3 Basic Obedience
Level 3 is the highest level that you and your dog can achieve. To go onto the level 3 course, you and your dog will have to have successfully completed level 2. The aim of the course is to develop a high level of control with your dog, especially in regards to off lead work. Training will progress to include a greater number of distractions, building duration and distance with behaviours already learnt in previous classes. New concepts are also introduced, such as relaxed isolation, send to bed, and stop the dog exercises. You will have gained vast knowledge about being a responsible dog owner and how to understand and train your dog upon completion of the course. The course is 6 weeks in duration, with a one hour session per week.

- Send the dog to bed
- Stay down in one place
- Stop the dog
- Examination of the dog
- Relaxed isolation
- Food manners
- Return to handler’s side and walk on for 30 paces
