Dog Training Courses

Are you looking for another enjoyable way of spending time with your dog?  Come and join like-minded people whilst learning how to build a life-long positive relationship between you and your dog.

  • All of our courses are designed to be fun, engaging and informative.
  • 4 courses available – Kennel Club Puppy Foundation Assessment, Kennel Club Good Citizens Bronze Award / Level 1, Kennel Club Good Citizens Silver Award / Level 2, Kennel Club Good Citizens Gold Award / Level 3.
  • You will be assigned to a course level that matches your dog’s current training abilities.
  • you and your dog can progress through each of the courses to reach an advanced level of obedience at Gold Award / Level 3.
  • We focus on ensuring that you and your dog are gaining as much knowledge as possible each week in an enjoyable way.
  • Classes consist of no more than six dogs.
  • The low class size means that you and your dog can receive the attention you need to be successful with our teaching.

All dogs need to be fully vaccinated with their booster and infectious bronchitis (kennel cough) vaccinations. Proof of this by way of a vaccination certificate must be seen by the trainer before the first class.

Kennel Club Good Citizens Puppy Foundation Assessment

The puppy foundation course is available for all puppies up to the age of 12 months. It aims to provide owners with an understanding of the responsibility of dog ownership, including the importance of socialisation and training. At the end of the course, puppies will respond positively to their owners, and will have the foundations of training, setting them off on the right track to then to continue in basic obedience. Once Successfully completed puppies can move on to the Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award. 

Exercises covered include;

  • Cleanliness and Identification
  • Response to name
  • Play
  • Socialisation
  • Handling and grooming
  •  Recall
  • Puppy positions (Sit,Down,Stay)
  • Walking in a controlled manner
  • Stay in one position for 10 seconds
  • Take object from puppy
  • Food Manners

Kennel Club Good Citizens Bronze Award / Level 1

The aim of the Bronze Award / Level 1 is to produce a dog that will behave and walk in a controlled manner whilst on the lead, stay in one position for a given length of time, and will allow the handler to clean groom and inspect it. The dog must also return to the handler when called. This course aims to provide the owner with the basic understanding of how to train their dog. All handlers and dogs will be assessed on week 7 of the course for Level 1 basic obedience by the course instructor.  If on completion you and your dog are ready you have the option to return, at no extra cost to one of our testing sessions to be assessed by a Kennel Club Examiner for the Good Citizen Bronze Award.

Exercises covered include;
  • For the handler to show understanding of responsibility and care.
  • For the handler to understand the importance of cleanliness and identification.
  • To be able to correctly fit a collar and lead.
  • For the dog to walk on the lead.
  • Control at a gate or doorway.
  • Control whilst walking around people and dogs.
  • Stay on lead for one minute
  • Grooming.
  • Examination of the dog.
  • Recall.

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Silver Award / Level 2       

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Silver Award / Level 2 aims to build upon the skills learned in the Bronze Award / Level 1 whilst increasing the level of difficulty. The course is a natural progression of practical dog training skills and introduces new concepts such as the controlled greeting, road walk and vehicle control exercises which are important in everyday life situations.  All handlers and dogs will be assessed on week 7 of the course for Level 2 basic obedience by the course instructor. If on completion you and your dog are ready you have the option to return, at no extra cost to one of our testing sessions to be assessed by a Kennel Club Examiner for the Good Citizen Silver Award.

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Gold Award / Level 3  

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Gold Award / Level 3 is the highest level of achievement. It builds upon the skills learnt in the Silver and Level 2 course and develops more advance training skills of the dog and handler. The course is a natural progression of practical dog training skills and introduces new concepts such as relaxed isolation, stop the dog and send the dog to bed exercises, which are important in everyday life situations. The course aims to provide handlers with a greater knowledge and understanding of their canine companion.  All handlers and dogs will be assessed on week 7 of the course for Level 3 basic obedience by the course instructor. If on completion you and your dog are ready you have the option to return, at no extra cost to one of our testing sessions to be assessed by a Kennel Club Examiner for the Good Citizen Gold Award.

Advanced Training Course

Our Advanced Training course is for handlers who want to continue training their dog beyond Gold level and have worked their way up through the levels here with our instructors.  The course continues to build and develop the handler and dogs abilities and skills.  A variety of new training exercises are introduced such as retrieves and send away.  The course is also flexible according to the handlers and dogs taking part, so scent work or gundog training exercises maybe introduced.  All handlers and dogs will be assessed on week 7 of the course by the course instructor.
